2003-02-11 8:09 PM Demanding Guests Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.
Just finished my last in-campus stargazing for this week. The students showed up 15 minutes late. As they entered the room I told them I was going to leave at 6:30pm. I told them the order at which we will view celestial objects through the telescope, but they still asked what we were looking at. Some mistook Jupiter for Saturn. They even asked what were the small dots around Jupiter when I had mentioned in the lecture beforehand that those were the four largest moons. And one even asked "Where's that bright star you mentioned in the South?" when the first thing I told them was how to get their directions. Partially my fault because I did not emphasize that I will not answer questions during the session proper that was covered in the lecture. Partially also because their teacher was not present (she's in Florida for two weeks) that's why they knew there could be no adverse consequences to their behavior. The lab coordinator, who had the academic service faculty take care of the exit permit for the telescope tomorrow, just replied to my text about needing help bringing the telescope down from the sixth floor observatory, in a building without elevators. I did that by myself in the last offcampus stargazing, but halfway down some former students of mine helped me. My room, after all, is in the predominantly male College of Engineering building. The academic service faculty were not in their offices when I called, and I did not have the celphone number of the one who processed the permit for me. I sent my message twice to make sure our lab coordinator got it. I hope they help me tomorrow. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
