Loving Their Wondery of Discoverment

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Despite having an itchy throat when I woke up, I engaged in three hours of lecture again. I got the reactions that I wanted, especially about the extreme sunrise & sunset in Alaska & the North Pole.

I also continued lecturing even though parts of the class were noisy. First of all, it’s their loss; the students who were anxious to listen were the ones to shush their classmates. Second, I want to reserve my “waiting for them to quiet down” pauses for the real important stuff, like unbendable rules for submission of requirements and such; given, it is the second to the last week of classes, but I don’t want it to become *my* habit.

My special computer class student today asked me to teach her about web page designing, something she heard from her classmates who had taken the same course with a different teacher. For starters I guided her through get a free web page, and showed her how to save a Word document as html, which is the simplest way for anyone to make a web page without using templates. Although I also showed her how to use the tutorials provided with her free web page.

I’m alone in the department right now, while most of my co-teachers are proctoring the last departmental exam of the term. One of them had asked me to replace someone who was in a seminar somewhere, but I declined, because two days ago I had already turned down a senior faculty member who asked me to proctor for her tonight. She is sure to find out if I had proctored for someone other than her. And they sympathized that I didn’t want to incur her wrath.

But another co-teacher of mine, the one leaving for Japan next week and is giving out two final exams tonight, had not yet reproduced his 2nd exam at 6pm, when his students were already waiting in their room in the next building. So he asked me to go there and just distribute the exam papers to the first class, and that he’ll show up in 10 minutes with the papers for the second class, which he did. So now I’m back here. Technically I didn't proctor.
