2006-05-11 11:13 PM I Might Not Do Justice to Introducing My Co-Teachers Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. There are so many thoughts that are even glimpsingly catching my attention these days - from the college student practicum program that I mentioned yesterday, the Eco Camp I'm currently on, last week's Leadership Training, the Freshman Orientation next week, and finally the subjects that I will be teaching starting in two weeks' time - that I don't know which one I should discuss in detail first. Maybe I'll do something in the "stream of consciousness" type, and see if it helps. For one thing, finding out this morning that I was given the task in the Freshman Orientation to introduce all the fulltime faculty (a few weeks after in the draft of the program that I saw, my name was not present) I had to plead out of it with the secretary of the Office of Student Affairs. Not that I had to come up with the descriptions of the teachers; they already were supposed to have submitted their profiles at the start of this week. It's just that it's something I don't think I could deliver with a straight face or not help ad libbing to, and that might offend some of the teachers, especially if I see that a "from the hip" delivery, which I will attempt for, does not get the expected reaction from them. Fear, for example. I also know that not all of the teachers are going to be there, but word might trickle down to them when these new students end up in their classes, and the freshmen might remember what I said about the teacher - which is the point after all: that the new students not enter their classes less than prepared. Two years ago, I remember succinctly being lassoed at the last minute to talk about the recognized student organizations, which suffered a lot from the lack of preparation, so I definitely do not want a repeat of that this year. Last year, I had the Science Camp to take care of immediately afterwards. This year I have no such excuse, but I do have the right to decline, which I exercised. Maybe it's better for me if the new students don't know anything about me firsthand before the first session in class. Session 1113 also wasn't at the freshman orientation. Class dismissed.
