Mood: Longing For the Weekend Read/Post Comments (0) |
2008-07-24 2:10 PM P/E/A: Four Days Down, One to Go Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Today was the most hectic day so far for the first time Foundation Week activities organizer. In fact, I probably have it worse than the full time administrative committee members because they don’t have their classes to worry about in between. In fact, because of a backlog of required sessions, I didn’t even lecture in the class I had for today. Instead we had the academic advising that was scheduled for yesterday, which was during the open lab and fun run. These students are the engineering fourth years, by the way. I also gave them a class exercise based on the last lecture, but, even though I came up with more than two items, I still had to allow them to work in pairs, and they were able to finish the work earlier than I expected, which means before the period ended. Then they had to wait for advising. Advising is just a bit more streamlined now than before. First of all, the students enlist the subjects they want, from the list, after logging in to their account. If it is approved by the adviser, then, logging in to my own account, I approve their list of subjects preferred, print it out and sign it. Even if the students know they have less than the required 15 units of subjects and will have to add eventually, they still have to print it out now and then go to the associate dean for advising. Anyway, afterwards I had to go with my newly graduated co-teacher to buy tickets for their general science requirement mechanics excursion, which was a very close call to catch the Campus in the Future demonstration using the Graphics Two submissions. I had to leave that in the middle because of an emergency meeting with the rest of the Foundation Week committee, where I had to bring my lunch to go that I bought during the off campus trip and that I ate while waiting for the demo to start. The meeting, to iron out all the details of what to do for tomorrow, ended twenty minutes before the tree planting was supposed to start. This was at the covered court, where, when we arrived, the students of the integrated school were still practicing for their performances tomorrow, even though they only reserved the venue for rehearsal until noon. So that activity started later than expected. And, even though this activity included faculty, staff and high school students, it was a surprise to us all that they had to ask everyone to contribute 50 pesos for the “fund raising”. Thankfully I was able to downgrade that to just a pledge of recyclables. Session 2277 needs better time management skills now that I've leveled up. Class dismissed.
