Mood: Winged Now, If That's Right Read/Post Comments (0) |

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Well, almost three months into this job, the dean finally emailed me my job description. This is after I had made my own job description and sent it to human resources last June. I mean, I know mine was just practical, this one has all those "values espoused by the founder" phrases included. @@ Yesterday was also the meeting of the academic advisers. Just like before, the registrar's office and the IT department were also represented, but it was mostly the faculty who brought out their complaints, including the every popular School of IT and Computing. It's ironic that these are the guys who seem to have the most unrealistic expectation of the programmers. I'm talking about since I first got here six years ago. Even the executive vice president back then was CS trained. Now if it were me, instead of complaining I would get my hands figuratively dirty and just program it myself. Yes, that's part of what I'm doing in the background, which is why I don't complain to the IT department. I know how hard they are working and how unappreciated they are from these whiners. That, by the way, is another lesson I have learned here: do not ever announce if you are doing something that is outside of your job description, no matter how grand it sounds. There will be baseless hopes on what your product will be, and the pressure will be on. So I'd rather just surprise them when it's finished, because by then they'd realize that I would have foreseen all the problems they have been crying about, and even some that they haven't thought of. Okay, this is bordering if not with both feet in the land of arrogance already, even if it is a private journal. I will stop there and just keep working. Then everyone will be pleasantly surprised. @@ As for the big news in the student accessible version, I knew about it before receiving the letter. Thanks to the administrative assistant, who is always supporting me since I don't treat her like a slave even when I was just a lowly faculty member myself, I get all this inside information. Session 2763 hears "the news even before it happens" in the background. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
