Mood: Going Farther Than That Read/Post Comments (0) |

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. This is what comes from relying on face to face value in the light of all this instantaneous communication available today: I was asked if I was free for a meeting at 11am, and it turned out that according to the secretary (when I double checked) said that the meeting was for Monday. So I was confident about not being caught flatfooted for the meeting, and the person who asked me was frantic about not being called yet. @@ Speaking of instant communication, it certainly herds people to extremes. In just the past twenty four hours I have heard someone ask for a big favor, say they were shy then when I replied that I will wait until they are ready to tell me, said they would rather say it in person. Just a few minutes ago I received another text from a person I met last night, who could not tell me about another big favor. This person, when I asked why the request was not said face to face, face to face requests like that make them shy and they have more confidence in text. Despite all this technology pushing us one way, it still takes all types to make a world. @@ For all her being on top of some things, it seems that the dean drops the ball on others. I think I discussed here before about the five-day suspension that we gave one of the students for continuous dress code violations. Part of the reason for our decision at that time is that it was the start of the term, so even if she missed her classes continuously she would not have much trouble making up for it since there is a lot of time to catch up. Almost a month since we gave the letter to the dean, she gives the sanction to the student (making it close to midterms now) and because of this she spreads the five days out across the term. So what happens if the suspension is for one month? Another instance is with this new set of rules about overstaying in campus (such as dance practices after operating hours) and I also included overnights in my suggestion. She then says in reply that overnights should not be included so that students would not take advantage. I answered that it was just because of the Youth for Christ camp, the only student organization to have overnights so far. She then asks pointedly if only that organization is allowed to stay overnight in campus. Of course not! As long as the other organizations show just cause for wanting to stay overnight in campus (such as a team building activity), they follow the lead time in reservation, there is a detailed list of what they will do, all the waivers are in place and there is at least one faculty present, after careful review it will be approved. Session 2835 knows there is no use to show favoritism to just one group. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
